One thing that I love about teaching grade five is having lit (literature) circles. What are they? Students form groups with other students who want to read the same book. The group gets together and discuss what they read.
It was so NICE to listen to them share their thoughts on the novel.
When the book was completed, they had to create a project on a key area of the book: theme, plot, character, and so on. We had newspapers, a spin-wheel, CDs, maps, a sociogram, and a graphic novel.

Some interesting projects, for sure!
